IT WAS a trip down memory lane with a difference when members of Age UK Dorchester's Evergreens Social Group were transported back in time on a virtual visit to the 1940s Heritage Village in Canada.

Without leaving their seats the Evergreens winged their way across the Atlantic and found themselves outside the Hosking General Store in 1940s Nova Scotia.

After being welcome by storekeeper Ann Currie, they went on to explore the school house the church and many of the other buildings including a fully equipped garage and gas station.

92-year-old Joyce Ray from Dorchester said “I think the highlight for me was when we took a peek inside the family home.

"It was complete with all the furniture and fittings, the old fashioned wringer, the enamel sink, and the old brass bedstead upstairs."

She added: "There were all the old kitchen utensils just like I use to use back in the 1940s, but there was one thing there that we didn’t back in those days, and that was the was the refrigerator."

Age UK Dorchester volunteer Margaret Wellspring, who presented the afternoon, said: "A wonderful time was had by all, and it really took everyone back to the 1940s.

"We finished the afternoon with a nice cup of tea and 1940s style jam tarts, made by one of our volunteers, and they really went down a treat."

Margaret added: "I shall be reporting back to the heritage village on the positive reaction from our clients and sending them some photographs of the afternoon’s proceedings."

The Evergreens meet at Age UK Dorchester’s centre in Prince of Wales Road, twice a month for interesting talks, entertainment and their own monthly Evergreens Cinema.

Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoyed an interesting afternoon in good company.
