A TEENAGE fundraiser is saddling up for another charity ride in support of the hospital unit that helped her retain her sight.

Rebecca Morris, from Dorchester, took on a 30-mile bike ride last year to raise funds for the children's eye unit at Southampton Hospital.

The Thomas Hardye School pupil, who turned 15 yesterday, has been under the care of the hospital since birth after she was born with severe cataracts.

She was diagnosed with glaucoma at the age of 10 and over the years has had more than 30 operations on her eyes.

Despite all she has been through, Rebecca remains determined to give something back to the unit at Southampton that did so much to preserve her sight and help others in her position.

Last year her ride raised around £700 and a range of other efforts have seen her raise £2,000 in total for the unit over the last three years.

She is now upping the ante and planning a 40-mile ride from Dorchester to Wareham and back so she can give even more to the unit.

Rebecca said: "I just wanted to push myself and I wanted to go further."

Like last year, Rebecca will b joined by her dad Michael and she is hoping to raise at least another £500 to add to her fundraising total in recent years.

She said the hospital was very grateful for the donations received so far and all the money raised goes towards equipment and other things the eye unit needs.

Rebecca has been busy training for the ride and is due to take on the challenge later this month.

She said she was determined to all she can to support the unit that had done so much for her.
