There’s plenty going on in the area this weekend.

Turn back the clock by stepping into a world of Victoriana in Weymouth or try and solve a mystery from the era in Dorchester.

It’s carnival time in Bridport, while cider will be the drink of choice in Dorchester.

CANNONS at the ready for the Nothe Fort’s annual Victorian Military Weekend tomorrow and Sunday.

Throughout the day there will be live firing displays with cannons, muskets and rifles and the chance to inspect the guns at close quarters.

The Fort Artillery and the Cumberland Guard from Portsmouth will be firing their cannons, as well as demonstrating their musket, bugles, drumming and marching skills. On the Sunday ‘Queen Victoria’ will be visiting to inspect the troops.

There will be traditional side shows including roll a penny, coconut shy and stocks. The Victorian school room will be open for you to try your hand at adding up ‘old’ money and writing with an ink pen.

ATHELHAMPTON House and Gardens near Dorchester will be the site of mystery and intrigue tonight when the nation’s favourite detective re-opens his casebook.

Chapterhouse Theatre presents Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of the Baskervilles in the open air from 7.30pm with people invited to enjoy a picnic in the grounds from 6pm.

READY steady teddy in West Stafford as a teddy bear parachute jump gets underway at St Andrew's Church tomorrow.

Raising money for the church, the jump from the church tower begins at 4pm and registration is at 3.30pm. People are invited to bring their own teddy bear’s picnic.

Entry costs £3 a bear and people can bring their own parachute designs or use a simple pre-designed one.

ENTERTAINMENT is on offer in Greenhill Gardens, Weymouth, on Sunday from 2pm.

The Silhouettes will be entertaining people at this free Friends of Greenhill Gardens event.

FUN-PACKED Bridport Carnival will include a grand procession tomorrow with floats and colourful walking entries.

Other activities, which take place from 10am to 8pm, include a carnival quiz, darts and a family bingo. as well as the traditional Sunday evening torchlight parade from Bridport to West Bay. Witness the awesome spectacle of 1,500 blazing torches being carried by families as they snake their way to the seaside for a celebration with live music and fireworks. The torchlight procession leaves at 9pm from South Street (torches will be on sale from 6:30pm outside the Town Hall).

AROUND 40 different aircraft, supported by more than 55 ground crew, will appear at the Bournemouth Air Festival this weekend.

The Royal Air Force world famous Red Arrows, the Blades Super Aerobatics team and the RAF Typhoon will be enthralling crowds on the beaches and clifftops.

The ninth Bournemouth Air Festival also includes plenty of entertainment on the ground. Chart toppers Kaiser Chiefs and Travis will be taking to the stage, and a host of demonstrations from the armed forces are set to thrill.

PIDDLE Valley Gardens’ Club presents its Summer Show at Piddle Valley First School tomorrow from 2pm to 4pm.

It will feature a range of vegetables, fruit and flowers plus floral art, cakes and jams. Teas, coffee and cake will be available.
