THERE are two special ensemble concerts to look forward to in rural Dorset next month.

The BSO and Artsreach are uniting once again for a weekend of outstanding music on November 19 in Briantspuddle near Dorchester and November 20 in Litton Cheney between Bridport and Dorchester.

With a range of music from across the ages, these chamber concerts will be a delightful chance to experience these outstanding professional performers in an intimate setting

On Saturday November 19 at 7.30pm the BSO Principal Winds travel to Briantspuddle Village Hall for An Evening of Golden Classics.

Join with the principal wind players and horn from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra as they perform an exciting programme of the finest music composed for wind instruments.

Pieces include Debussy's Syrinx, Rossini's Les Renevous de Chase and Elgar's Chanson de Matin, plus works by Ibert. Their last two performances with Artsreach sold out well in advance Contact 01929 471002 for more details.

Then on Sunday November 20 at 7.30pm a quartet of Kokoro musicians will perform masterpieces by four of the 20th century's greatest composers in Litton Cheney Village Hall in West Dorset.

Bartok’s Romanian Dances, provides a brilliant curtain-raiser to the evening, titled Masterworks. Debussy follows in the guise of one of his atmospheric piano preludes, La Puerto del Vino, whilst Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale relates in vivid music the story of a soldier who sells his violin to the Devil in exchange for wealth.

Debussy’s First Rhapsody for clarinet and piano opens the second half of the concert, and Shostakovich’s magnificent Second Piano Trio provides a thought-provoking climax to the programme, reflecting the exhaustion of the Russian people in the wake of the Nazi invasion during World War II, as well as the death of the composer’s closest friend, to whom this elegiac, but also defiant work was dedicated. Tickets are available from 01308 482532.

Yvonne Gallimore, Co-Director of Artsreach said: "It is absolutely brilliant to be able to work once more with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and present these two fantastic ensembles in a single season.

"The autumn season has been so well received so far, and we are grateful for the support of our sponsors Blanchards Bailey, who have helped grow our rural audiences and ensure more people in the area are aware of the events we are touring."
