AFTER reading our piece about star Charlie Drake visiting Weymouth to film Petticoat Pirates, Di Phillips has been in touch.

Dorchester resident Di remembers when Charlie came to Winterbourne Abbas when she was a child.

She said: "Our vicar at the time often invited the stars appearing in the summer shows at Weymouth to stay at the vicarage with him and his wife for weekends, so they wouldn't have to travel a long way home for a short time.

"Charlie Drake came several times so the vicar invited him to conduct a 'Hitch Trial', to find the happiest married couple in the village.

"Great fun and laughter was enjoyed by everyone. The event was won by Mr and Mrs Chipp."

Di added that among the stars staying at the vicarage, her favourites were the Mudlarks singing group.
