CHILDREN’S theatre is stomping its way to Dorchester on April 12.

An Elephant in the Garden, from the creator of War Horse, is at the Corn Exchange for two showings at 2.30pm and 7pm. Doors open half an hour before performances.

Set in 1945, Dresden, Germany, An Elephant in the Garden tells the story of Lizzie, her mother and an elephant from the zoo who flee the Allied fire-bombing in the end-game of the Second World War.

Escaping the Allies’ advance from the West – and the advancing Russian armies from the East – this extraordinary trio of refugees meet a downed RAF officer, cowering in a barn; a homeless school choir on the run from the Nazis; and the mechanised American cavalry, appearing over the horizon.

An Elephant in the Garden is adapted from Michael Morpurgo’s best-selling children’s novel by the creators of the five star hit Private Peaceful.

Performances are at 2.30pm and 7pm (doors open half an hour before performances). Contact Dorchester Arts for tickets.
