HOW'S your luck?

A charity race night is being held at Dorchester Town Hall next month to raise funds for Southampton Hospital and the Mayor of Dorchester's chosen charities.

The evening is being organised by Dorchester couple, Andrew and Denise Jones.

Last year Denise was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm and the couple wanted to give something following her outstanding care.

Andrew said: "This is our personal way of saying thank you after Denise underwent major brain surgery last year to have a cerebral aneurysm clipped.

"It was a very traumatic time for her but the care she received at Southampton Hospital was fantastic.

"We are organising this event to raise funds and in the hope of raising awareness of this condition and to celebrate the care and support of our NHS.

"The funds will be going towards the neurology department at Southampton Hospital. The staff there really went above and beyond for her and we can't thank them enough.

"We thought it would be great to host it in Dorchester and the mayor kindly arranged it for us to be able to use the Town Hall so we are going to split the proceeds with the mayor's chosen charities.

"We just want people to have a good time and there will be plenty going on between the races."

Tickets cost £8 and will include a ploughman's supper. There will also be a raffle with a variety of prizes alongside eight races.

Andrew, who works at an accountancy in Poundbury, added: "My wife still suffers with some of the after effects but the staff said it will take time. The body does take time to get back to normal.

"We are just taking one day at a time. My wife actually works for me so we can work it round that really. If she is having a bad day then she can take the day off.

"From the cleaners to the surgeons at Southampton, every single person was just astonishing and really supported Denise.

"We couldn't go back to our lives without doing something to thank them all."

The charity race night will be held at Dorchester Town Hall, above the Corn Exchange, on Saturday, May 13.

Doors will open at 7.30pm and it will finish at approximately 11pm.
