A fitness club in Dorchester is organising a Walk for Weldmar this weekend.

Jo Thomson from Anytime Fitness is behind the event and is encouraging families, no matter what the ages, to join and help raise money for a good cause.

Weldmar Hospicecare is the fitness club's chosen charity of the year.

Walk for Weldmar is just the first of many events the club will be organising this year.

The walk will take participants from Brewery Square to Maiden Castle, approximately 7km, before returning to Simon's Delicatessen on Weymouth Avenue for refreshments and a raffle.

Jo said: "I've worked with Weldmar a lot of the years before I came to Anytime Fitness.

"I was keen to have it as our chosen charity of the year and the staff here felt the same. The charity does fantastic work.

"It is a really strong charity to get behind.

"I've worked with them closely and have often done the warm ups before events such as Weldmar's Colour Run and Santa Run.

"Anytime Fitness has been open since the end of January and we were keen to start creating community events.

"Everyone is welcome to come along and we look forward to seeing families join in.

"Hopefully the weather will hold for us.

"We will taking a gentle walk to Maiden Castle and back before stopping at Simon's Delicatessen for refreshments and the raffle.

"We are asking for a small donation for refreshments.

"We currently have around five great prizes for the raffle that have been donated from business in Brewery Square but it would be great to get some more before the weekend. The more we can raise the better."

Jo added: "We are asking people to register before the walk but I think a lot of people will be waiting to see what the weather is like, which is fine.

"I am hoping there will be around 20 to 30 of us."

Anytime Fitness' Walk for Weldmar will take place on Sunday, April 23.

The walk will start at Brewery Square at 10am.
