A brave ten-year-old has defied all expectations after being hit by meningitis when he was a baby.

Little George Patterson was left deaf and unable to control his limbs and wasn't expected to make it to his schools years.

But the family has recently been hit with some hard news, that there is 'nothing more' doctors can do for George.

Mum Naomi, has been behind a fundraising initiative for Meningitis Now as a thank you for all the charity's help and support for George.

Teams of fundraisers, under the banner of Team George, have been hosting and participating in numerous events in order to raise as much money as possible in George's name.

Since 2015 the teams have raised an overwhelming amount - more than £55,000.

But Naomi said that after a final event later this month she will be taking a step back from the fundraising in order to create some lasting memories with George and the family.

Fundraising will still continue and Naomi will be back to run in the London Marathon.

She said: "There is nothing more that doctors can do for George now.

"His scoliosis has got so severe that it has twisted his chest and is putting pressure on his lungs. His body muscle is also getting weaker.

"He is not able to have a spine operation as it's not possible. But he will still be treated to keep him comfy and out of pain.

"But he is still smiling which completely sums him up. He never stops smiling and that's George.

"His is such a fighter and we are all so proud of him.

"He was never expected to make school years and he did, he has done absolutely fantastic.

"He is still fighting but it's his body that is failing him.

"We've decided to take him on holiday to his favourite place - Weymouth Bay Holiday Park - and we're all just going to enjoy some fantastic memories together."

Boombox nightclub on Weymouth Esplanade held a 'Rave for George' last Friday and raised £1,000 to help fund George's family holiday.

A cricket match will be held at The Great Field in Poundbury - one of George's favourite places - on Sunday, June 25 from 12pm.

Naomi said it will be a chance for her to thank everyone who has been so supportive of George and the fundraising.
