SEE top artists capture the summer light over the lakes at one of Dorset's most scenic spots.
Sculpture by the Lakes at Pallington near Dorchester is organising two ‘Plein Air Painting’ events this summer on July 30 and September 9.
Visitors will be able to watch some of the best Dorset based artists working in the open air.
Some 20 artists will have free access to the sculpture park on both Sunday July 30 and Saturday September 9 and showcase painting in the picturesque surroundings of the sculpture park.
Visitors to the park on both days will be able to watch the artists paint, ask questions and buy any of their art work from the day.
The Dorset based artists will show their skill in a variety of media, capturing the summer light over the lakes, glorious gardens and stunning natural habitats. ‘Plein Air Painting’ has long been a Dorset tradition, and one that has endured many evolving styles.
The artists will bring a fresh eye to the ever-changing light, reflections, colour and seasons found at the sculpture park.
‘En plein air’ painting is about painting and drawing in the landscape and is the French expression for ‘in the open air’. The practice goes back for centuries but was truly made into an art form by the French impressionists including the likes of Claude Monet and Pierre- Auguste Renoir who were advocates of plein air painting.
Visitors will, not only have the opportunity to listen and learn from the artists themselves but also a chance to purchase artwork directly from them.
Described as one of Britain’s most beautiful and unique sculpture parks in the UK, Sculpture by the Lakes is set amongst 26 acres of Dorset’s finest countryside.
