Staff at a Dorchester came home came together to remember a much-loved former colleague.

Trudy Stroud, a domestic assistance at Castle View Care Home in Poundbury, braved the clippers and said goodbye to her locks for a charity head shave.

After losing former colleague, Kim White, Trudy decided she wanted to give something back to the charity that supported her friend in her time of need.

There was a buzz in reception as both staff and residents took it in turns to trim Trudy’s multi-coloured locks in aid of Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

A total of £418 was raised from the shave, alongside a raffle and specially made 'smiley' daisy petal badges.

Trudy, who lives in Dorchester and started working at Castle View when it opened in 2002, said: “We’ve lost too many family and friends to cancer, including Kim.

“This was my way of supporting Weldmar, which helps so many people in their time of need.

“My thanks to everyone at Castle View for helping to raise this money. Everyone is always so supportive of charity events and good causes here.”

Resident Hedi Statham was among those to take a turn with the clippers.

Also involved were kitchen porter Nick Harper, healthcare assistant and hairdresser Anne Nicholls, nurse Mercy Dunga, chef Adam Juhoor, Colten companion Angela Moors, activities organiser Sue Goodwin, waiter Dion Benson and home manager Sarah Harper.

Sarah said: “Trudy was brilliant and it was great to see everyone join in the fun.

“It was lovely to remember Kim in this way as she was a great person who got on with absolutely everybody.

“Trudy has been our top fundraiser over the years.

“We’ve raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity since opening and it’s nice to be able to give back to the community in which we work and live.”

Healthcare assistant Kim was one of the original team members at Castle View, owned by Colten Care, and met Prince Charles when he opened the home in 2002.
