It was a day of bouncy castles, face-painting, Punch and Judy, ice creams and of course football, as the town's club hosted it's first Community Engagement Day.

The event was held in the popular Borough Gardens last Wednesday and organisers are delighted with its success.

Dorchester Town Football Club is no longer a club owned by share holders, it is a community club.

It is with this in mind that members of the club have been on a mission for it to become more involved in both the Dorchester and wider community.

Speaking on the day, Mark Robinson, general manager at Dorchester Town Football Club, said: "We're really pleased with how everything is going.

"The community has really come together to help us with this event. And with the Love Parks event being cancelled a lot of people were really disappointed, so we're glad we could do this.

"Six weeks is a long time for families to fill with activities for their children. And simple events like this in the Borough Gardens are a massive help, and it's all for free.

"It's a really good atmosphere here and there are lots of kids coming over and asking about the football club and showing a lot of interest in coming to more games.

"We've had a really good response so it would be wrong not to do this again.

"We have a few ideas in the pipeline but people will have to wait and see."

The Mill Street Jazz Band returned to the gardens as well as the Wessex Invaders and Settlers Empire with their battle re-enactments.

Nigel Hayes, one of the directors at the club, added: "We would like to say a huge thank you to Tesco Bags of Help for their support and grant, we couldn't have done this without them."
