A performing arts group is on the hunt for pro-active and creative young people to help shape its future.

Activate Peforming Arts is looking for enthusiastic, imaginative and committed 16 to 25-year-olds.

Set up 25 years ago as a dance agency, Activate Performing Arts has developed over the past decade harnessing the ability of artists and the arts, to affect positive change.

Activate Peforming Arts, based in Dorchester, is looking for individuals aged 16 to 25 who are passionate about culture and its impact on communities to become members of their youth board.

Launched in June 2016, Activate Youth Board (AYB) is a collective of young people who meet once a month to advise the organisation on its programme of work.

AYB project manager, Samantha Gillingham said: “The youth board gather, usually with tea and snacks, to discuss Activate’s past, present and future work to ensure its relevance to the young people of Dorset.

“Alongside this, AYB get hands-on experiences with the organisation, such as co-producing events to develop skills within the creative industries.

“In return for their time, energy and enthusiasm the Activate team support each of the youth board members in a manner that is tailored to their needs, giving guidance, support and time.”

She added by joining AYB, young people would help Activate support the development of dance, theatre and outdoor arts and “realise the next phase in our company’s evolution”.

The performing arts group produce, promote and present theatre dance and outdoor arts, are home to the Inside Out Dorset Festival and work on local, national and international projects.

Current AYB member Rachel Dunford said: “AYB is a fantastic forum to collaborate with people with similar interests, who also want to develop their skills and knowledge within the creative industries and learn from those already working within the arts.

“It is allowing me to explore my potential as a creative and experience things I wouldn’t necessarily be able to in other careers. I really look forward to what the future of the AYB will be.”
