It will be a night to remember as the community comes together to celebrate one man's fantastic achievement for Weldmar Hospicecare.

The charity's head of fundraising, Matt Smith, has been celebrating his ten years working for Weldmar by taking on ten challenges throughout 2017.

The first challenge started back in February when Matt took to the waters at Weymouth Sealife Adventure Park plunging himself into a tank of sharks.

Since then Matt has battled through a challenge a month taking on abseiling the Spinnaker Tower, the London Marathon, 15,000ft Skydive, Wingwalking, 3 Peaks Challenge, 180 Mile Cycle Challenge, Borneo Jungle Trek, 60mph face down zip wire and finishing on a 10-hour dance-a-thon.

Matt’s Colossal CelebratTEN event will be held at Thomas Hardye School from 7pm.

Alongside Dorchester Performance Arts will be performances from DFBeatz, a street dance group from Yeovil, dancers from The Studio Dorchester and performances from the Eileen Spracklen's School of Dance. There will also be vocal performances by recent winners of Weldmar’s Dorset got Talent competition.

Franz Atkinson from Dorchester Performance Arts said: "All the acts performing on the night have supported previous Weldmar events - Dorset's Got Talent and Strictly Ballroom.

Dorchester Performance Arts won DGT in 2015 when we performed as Greenford Girls.

"I wanted to support Matt to recognise his work over the past ten years at Weldmar, and to congratulate him and other people who have taken part in some of the events with Matt.

"I offered to coordinate and stage the event for him at the end of his Colossal Ten, as a way of showing our support for all he has done.

"I felt is was fitting to bring together performers from previous events to celebrate Matt's success."

Matt said “We decided that it would be a lovely idea to mark all ten challenges with a finale evening named ‘Matt’s Colossal CelebraTEN’.

"It’s an opportunity for us to thank everyone who has been part of these challenges but also to talk about my experience and show some fantastic video footage of each adventure.

"Plus, the overall total raised from all the challenges, including other supporters sponsorship, has been kept under wraps to date and we will be exclusively revealing this on the night itself.”

He added: "Each and every day I see what a difference donations make to local families here in Dorset.

"I get to see our nurses and other professionals make patients as comfortable as possible, help families make memories and see people be treated in the best possible way, when it is needed most.

"All the money raised from the ticket sales of the evening and sponsorship from the Colossal 10 will make such a difference to so many families here in Dorset. And that is why I work for Weldmar and why I will continue to do so for many years to come.”
