An auction of promises to raise much-needed funds for mental health services certainly didn't disappoint.

A major event recently held at Duke's Auctioneers saw more than 150 people attend to support Dorset Mind and its expansion into west Dorset.

The evening was an overwhelming success and raised more than £4,000.

Organised by David Upshall, who is working in conjunction with Dorset Mind to implement their services in the county town and across west Dorset, thirty nine lots were available for those attending to open their wallets and donate to vital cause.

The proceedings were opened by the Mayor of Dorchester, Cllr Susie Hosford, with one or two eyeing up the mayoral chain as a possible lot.

“It is lovely to see so many people here tonight to support this fantastic cause. A massive thank you to all the local businesses who donated to the auction. This is typical of Dorchester. Ask and you will get," she said.

Garry Batt from Duke's was the auctioneer for the evening and made sure he got every penny he could on each lot.

The items included a personalised cry and special walk around Dorchester with Alistair Chisholm, to a more quieter retreat day at Summer Lodge with spa lunch and champagne.

Mr Upshall was overwhelmed by the generosity of local people and the enthusiasm generated by businesses in and around Dorchester. “Without their help and support, this evening would not have happened. I cannot thank them enough for all they have done in making this amazing sum possible. And rest assured, all money raised tonight will stay in Dorchester to benefit local people," he said.

Representatives from Dorset Mind were also present, lending their support to the proceedings. Marianne Storey, CEO, was joined by Dee Swinton, income generation and marketing manager, Mandy Nicholson, service delivery manager, Megan Ford, social media volunteer, and the recently appointed west dorset project manager, Louise Reagan.
