A special geology evening is being held in Dorchester this month.

Ignite will be an evening of short geology talks by local geologists at Dorset County Museum.

Geology lovers will also be able to enjoy a free glass of mulled wine or mulled cider and a secret recipe mine pie.

This year the museum is welcoming back Dr John Whicher who will talk about 'why molluscs have spines'.

Dr John Whicher is a retired professor of molecular pathology and experimental cancer research.

His research interests were in the mechanism and consequences of the acute phase response.

He is a members of the Geological Society and the Geologists Association and an author of papers on Dorset geology and palaeontology.

The second speak is Alison Smith, who will be taking about how things get done.

This talk will follow the story of Alison's personal experience of trying and failing, and trying again to realise an ambitious vision for ‘Jurassica’, which was to be a flagship development, a celebration of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, bringing the story of the rocks to life for a broad public audience.

Alison was formerly the project director of the Jurassica project, is now working with the team behind the Memo Project in a new partnership with the Eden Project.

The event will be held on Wednesday, December 13 from 7pm and is free.
