When Dorset care home resident Margaret Norcombe joked with staff that she would like a Mercedes-Benz she never thought they would actually get one.

Margaret made the unusual request when it was her turn to be ‘resident of the day’ at Colten Care’s Castle View home at Poundbury in Dorchester.

Manager Sarah Harper and her dedicated staff bought Margaret a remote controlled toy Mercedes-Benz car but then decided to go the extra mile and find a real one.

Colten Companions Sue Goodwin and Steph Jolliffe put their heads together with Senior Administrator Emma Phillips and arranged for a surprise visit by a top-of-the-range car courtesy of Sandown Mercedes-Benz Dorchester.

Sales executive Linden Holmes performed the honours when he rolled up to Castle View in a sleek black S500 worth £120,000.

Margaret said: “It is rather nice. All my family drive Mercedes so it runs in the family. Many thanks to everyone for arranging such a pleasant surprise.”

Mary was given a VIP look around the car, which has a top speed just shy of 200mph.

Linden also presented Margaret with a pen, umbrella, baseball cap, drinks bottle and key ring, which she intends to give to her sons.

Linden said: “It was our pleasure to help, especially for a Mercedes-Benz fan.

“We are always happy to support the community and are keen to get involved in more projects locally.”

Residents’ days at Castle View are like a resident’s second birthday.
Staff choose a resident every day to treat with a special request.

Sue Goodwin said that the home was delighted to be able to make Margaret’s day extra special.

She said: “We’ve had people asking for a special meal, a pamper session, a trip to the garden centre or favourite takeaway.

“But we’ve never had a request for a Mercedes-Benz car before, it must be the most unusual so far.

“I think Margaret said it in jest but we thought we would try and make her wish come true or at least get the next best thing!

“Our thanks go to Linden and all at Mercedes-Benz Dorchester for being so supportive and making Margaret’s day.”
