Services running through Dorchester South were disrupted due to a problem with a set of points at the station.
South Western Railway (SWR) said a problem with the points at Dorchester South resulted in trains having to run at reduced speed between Bournemouth and Weymouth.
Points are sections of track that move, acting as junctions and allowing trains to move from one line to another.
Train services running between these stations were delayed by up to 15 minutes or revised.
Disruption was expected until 12:30pm.
A spokesman for SWR said: "SWR has received reports from a signaller that a set of points has failed at Dorchester South, meaning that trains have to come to a stop and seek verbal permission to move forwards through three signals in the Weymouth bound direction and one signal in the Bournemouth direction.
"Network Rail engineers have been informed and are working to rectify the problem, and get the line back to normal working order.
"For further information, please speak to a member of staff or use a help point, and please keep checking for updates.
"South Western Railway are sorry for any delay to your journey this morning.
