Hundreds of people flocked to a jumble sale - but with a difference.

Several hundred people attended Monmouth Road jumble trail in Dorchester on Sunday to find a bargain amongst dozens of pop-up stalls dotted along the road.

Families living around the neighbourhood cleared out their attics prior to the days festivities and created stalls selling a range of vintage furniture, books, kids toys, plants, clothes on offer amongst the rails, trestle tables and garden walls with one household even offering a vegan cafe concept with homemade traybakes.

The event, which is in its fourth year, was started by teacher Ellie Goodridge who got the concept from a similar event in Brighton.

She said: "It has been our biggest and best yet and it is the fourth year in a row we have been lucky with the weather.

"Local people have cleared out their attics and had a lovely time making new friends in the neighbourhood."

Jumble Trails have been growing in popularity across the country since Martina Randles hosted the debut event in 2013 in London.

Since then, hundreds of events take place across the UK every year which not only enable people to sell unwanted items or show off their crafts, but also act as a way of bringing neighbours and communities together.

Ellie added: "Since the idea was brought forward which is similar to a car boot concept, it has generated a lot of support from neighbours in the street with many saving up items up items which they have grown out of.

"I would encourage people in other parts of town to set something similar up."

Founder Martina Randles, added: “It feels more important now than ever to bring people together, celebrate community spirit and connect with each other.

"Jumble Trails are a great, purposeful way for people of all ages and backgrounds to have fun while helping build a more sustainable planet for future generations."

Ellie has already started organising the fifth event which will take place in May 2019.
