It's an exciting time at one football club this summer as work is underway to replace their grass pitch with an all-weather 3G surface.

Working with McArdle Sports Tec and Tigerturf UK Dorchester Town Community Football Club will soon have a state-of-the-art pitch available at their grounds.

As reported, the initiative to raise funds for the new pitch was an overwhelming success - with £15,000 raised in just three days.

Individuals or business were asked to donate £50 for a square on a hypothetical pitch and in return the donators received their name, or nominated name in a section of a pitch which will appear on the club website, on the club social media, in the match day programme and on a board at the stadium.

The new pitch will allow the stadium to become a hub for youngsters who have an interest in sport and it said to be open and ready to use by mid July.

And the excitement doesn't stop there, the club has also teamed up with SSE Wildcats Girls Football Centre to encouraged more girls, aged five to 11, into the world of football.

Sessions will be taking place on a weekly basis at 1610 Dorchester on Coburg Road from Saturday, May 26 from 9am until 10am.

Dorchester Town Football Club, SSE and The FA hope the initiative will inspire participants to engage with football, meet new friends, develop fundamental skills, learn new things and create the foundation for a lifelong love of football.

The initiative is in line with The FA’s Gameplan for Growth and Dorchester Town Football Club's vision of targeting the doubling of girls’ participation in the sport by 2020.

Mark Robinson, Dorchester Town general manager and Dorchester Town FC SSE Wildcats centre lead coach, said: "I have spent the last year visiting schools in Dorchester and the surrounding villages coaching children as part of Dorchester Town Community Football Club schools initiative scheme and have had a good really good uptake from girls to want to play football, I started playing football at a similar age to a lot of the girls that I have been coaching in the first schools in these sessions and that’s when my love of football began. We have a fantastic opportunity to build a love of the game for these girls wishing to take part in the sessions with it being the world cup this summer and also a very exciting time for Dorchester Town Community Football Club providing an amazing facility for the community of Dorchester with the development of the 3G pitch at the Avenue Stadium. For any youngster wishing to start a journey along the footballing pathway there is no better time to want to start and allow the club and the SSE Wildcats to provide a great resource for the chance to encourage them to enjoy the game from a young age.”

The 3G will also allow the club to run Soccer Schools over the coming summer holidays at the stadium. Starting on Monday, August 6 they will run for four weeks, from 9am to 3pm.

With the installation of a 3G pitch the club are on the look out for volunteers to help with the transition - these positions range from match day stewards and turnstile operators, to help setting up during the week for conferences held at the clubs meeting rooms, stadium cleaning and bar work and an opportunity to be a part of a new era for the club.

It is a busy period off the pitch as well. It has recently held a silent action to raise funds for The Fortuneswell Trust and the monthly bingo will be returning on Friday, May 18.

This weekend the Royal Wedding will be shown, followed by the FA Cup Final and a skittles tournament.
