Dozens of greyhounds were invited for a very special walk in Poundbury.

The walk was organised by volunteers of Forever Hounds Trust, a charity that rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes greyhounds and lurchers, and was part of the nationwide Great Global Greyhound Walk.

The event attract dog lovers and their greyhounds from far and wide - with some even coming from Somerset.

In total, 27 hounds and their families attended the walk, and the glamorous greyhounds were also joined by a whippet, a saluki, three lurchers and a collie.

Frankie Veale, volunteer for Forever Hounds Trust, said: “The weather was good and we ended the walk at the dog-friendly Duchess of Cornwall pub in Queen Mother’s Square. We raised over £60 for Forever Hounds Trust, which is a charity close to our hearts as they work tirelessly to rescue and rehome greyhounds.”

Emma Butler, marketing and communications manager for the charity added: “Greyhounds make wonderful pets and the Great Global Greyhound Walk is a wonderful celebration of these very special animals. At Forever Hounds Trust we always have greyhounds looking for homes, often coming to us on retirement from the racing industry.

“There are many misconceptions about greyhounds, including that they need lots of exercise. This isn’t always true and we affectionately refer to our greyhounds and the 40mph couch potatoes. Despite being famed for their speed they really don’t need a lot of exercise at all, with many being happy with just a couple of short walks a day and then a snooze on the sofa.

“I expect all the greyhounds on the Great Global Greyhound Walk thoroughly enjoyed their outing and lovely walk through Poundbury, and were then more than happy to spend the rest of the day sleeping it off."
