Staff at a hair and beauty salon are going above and beyond to raise funds in memory of someone very close to their hearts.

Wax & Relax Hair and Beauty Salon on Portland is owned by Alex Parker, who sadly lost her mother Elaine Sutton earlier this year.

Alex said the care her mother and the entire family received from Weldmar was brilliant and so she wanted to do something in return.

The salon will therefore be hosting a fundraising day in September in aid of Weldmar Hospicecare.

At the start of the year the salon held a fundraiser for Cancer Research UK and managed to raise more than £2,500.

And for this event, Alex and her colleague Cassie Hughes are hoping for a bigger and better day.

Cassie said: "We want to help another charity close to our hearts, Weldmar, in remembrance of Elaine who we sadly lost in June.

"Weldmar gave her and her family the best care and support."

On the day Alex's husband Chris, a gym instructor, will be doing a 'Train the Trainer' game where people can pay to spin the wheel and watch him struggle to do back-to-back reps of various exercises.

Chris is also taking on the Bournemouth marathon in October in aid of Weldmar.

As well as 'Train the Trainer' there will also be a grand raffle, with tickets on sale in the salon now, a cake sale, hair cuts, hair braiding and waxing for donations, face painting, glitter tattoos, a tombola, games, music and much more.

Alex and Cassie have been organising the event in their spare time and will be there on the day to welcome everyone.

The company is looking for more donations for its raffle but has so far received two donations from an up and coming designer clothes label adubclothing.com and Window World Weymouth have come on board as the official sponsor for the day.

Anyone who wanted to donate can pop in to the salon or call 01305 821379 and ask for Cassie.

The fundraising event will be held at the salon on 22 Easton Street, Portland, on Saturday, September 16 from 9am until 5pm.
