Christmas is coming to Portland earlier than expected.

Residents and visitors to the island will soon have the opportunity to experience the sights, sounds and even smells of the festive season as the island’s flagship hotel - The Heights - is opening their doors for a unique event.

This December the Portland Festive Fair will arrive at the hotel, running from Friday, December 1 until Sunday, December 3.

The fair will be raising money for two vital charities in the area, Portland Coastwatch and Muntsy's - a service offering daily facilities for adults with additional needs or learning disabilities who wish to develop their independence.

Speaking about the event, organiser Michelle Teague-Forder explained that the fair will be a completely different experience for Portland.

She said: "Featuring a seasonal celebration of beautiful, quality and unique local crafts, gifts and tempting food, you’ll just have to visit.

“The event will be raising funds for two local charities which are the Portland Coastwatch and Muntsy's. The Heights Hotel will complement the event with festive decorations and food within the coffee shop and bistro, overlooking the panoramic views of Lyme Bay. The whole experience will make this a sensational annual event, and a great indoor one to attend, no matter what the Portland weather brings."

The event will also feature a ‘wish tree’, enabling people to purchase a wish and have it carefully placed on the tree. The tree will remain in place for the remainder of the festive season, after which all the money raised from the sale of wishes will be divided equally between the two charities.

Anyone interested in taking part in the event with a stall of their own is invited to make contact with Michelle directly by calling 01305 821361, or emailing: michelle@heightshotel.com
