Thousands of pounds worth of damage has been caused to a new property development on Portland.

The new properties on Pennsylvania Road have been under construction over the past year by Lomand Homes.

The properties were almost complete with many already reserved when the company suffered a major setback.

Earlier this month the properties were significantly damaged with the director of the company estimating the damage to cost approximately £7,000.

The incident happened sometime over the weekend of December 2 - with previous damage occurring the weekend of November 25.

Mark Coleman, director at Lomand Homes, said: "Quite a considerable amount of damage has been done. A lot of the windows have been smashed and so have the doors.

"This wasn't the first time either, we came in the Monday before and there had been damage across that weekend too.

"We have been working so hard to get the properties complete and now this has happened, it's frustrating.

"It also means we have had to push back when people can move into their new homes – this hasn't just affected one person.

"It is completely mindless vandalism.

"Lomand Homes now has its own security measures in place.

"If anyone has any information I ask that they contact the police."

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "We were called at 10.35am on December 4 to reports of criminal damage to a property. The windows and doors had been smashed.

"It was believed to have happened between 1pm on December 2 and 9am on December 4.

"Investigations have been underway. A 63-year-old man has been arrested and released under investigation.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

Witnesses or anyone with information should contact Dorset Police on 101 quoting crime number 55170188180.
