The streets of Portland will be transformed into outdoor gallery this spring.

The Friends of b-side will be bringing Window Wanderland to Portland with an ambition to bring hundreds of visitors to the isle.

The community event started in Bristol in 2015 and has grown year-on-year, with many previous participating neighbourhoods returning to make it an annual event.

The event aims to encourage as many residents as possible to create a window display that can be lit up so that all who can pass can enjoy it.

The displays can be as simple or as complex as people want them to be - from a string of fairy lights to a full 'stained glass window, or even a life performance or disco.

There will an online interactive map so that everyone will be able to plan their route round Portland.

The Friends of b-side are a small group who got together as a result of volunteering during the b-side festival. They are hoping that the whole of Portland will be inspired to take part in the free event that will light up the isle.

Although the event is free it is being organised solely by volunteers and money is needed to financial support to pay for items such as leaflets and adverts.

Portland Town Council have agreed to sponsor the event by donating £50. A report before Portland Town Council initially suggested donating £10, but this was felt as a 'bit measly' by Cllr Sandra West.

She said: "Window Wanderland is a really good project. It is brining a different art to the island and I think we should be supporting this.

"£10 is a bit measly."

It was agreed to raise the donation from £10 to £50.

In recognition of any financial support The Friends of b-side receive, all sponsors will be mentioned on its dedicated Window Wanderland page.

The event will be held from 6.30pm until 9.30pm from Friday, March 23 until Sunday, March 25.
