PURBECK is set to host a wild weekend of adventure as a new festival takes place in 2017.

The Purbeck Outdoor Weekend (T POW) will be taking place from September 15 to 17 and will include an Ironman-style event, a climbing festival, a morning jog and dog, a family run and dementia-friendly Nordic walking.

The event has grown from the Purbeck Marathon, which has grown immensely over the past several years to become one of the top events of its kind in the country. In 2016 the marathon included a 16k route and a Nordic Walking Festival.

Founder and organiser of the event Jason Haiselden said: “I hope the full adventure programme for 2017, will have huge appeal. With the concept of the Marathon already well established, we were contacted by additional members of the outdoor community to encompass events into a proper all round adventure weekend festival, and also have the opportunity to showcase the area on such a big scale. We also now have charitable status, and it’s hugely rewarding to be able to give back to local community.

“I think people are excited that the area is really accessible, rather than travelling for miles and miles, and anyone who has been here will tell you there is nowhere quite like it, you can dive, coasteer, hike even Slack Line and kite surf all in 48 hours. There really is something for everyone, in celebration of the outdoors, and all that Dorset has to offer.”

Entries are now open for the Purbeck Running Festival and Bike Bimble, with additional event information being added to the web site all the time.
