MOTOR enthusiasts are gearing up for a classic car show to raise funds for a good cause.

The Dorset Blind Associations’ classic car show returns to Lulworth Castle for its third year on Sunday, May 14 with the added addition of sports cars.

The popular event begins with car owners heading out for 30 mile countryside drive before arriving at the castle showground in time to open to the public for a free family fund day from noon.

With organisers promising this year’s event will be twice as big as previous years, there will be stalls, live performances, a children’s fun area and a gourmet BBQ.

Morris Minor driver Olivia Akam said: "This really is a splendid and well thought out event. We love that we can relax by our cars in such a beautiful setting.

"The run out for the classics is through beautiful countryside and the event provides so much for so many, a great family day out and for a great cause. I look forward to polishing the car for this one."

Last year's event raised more than £1,500 for the Dorset Blind Association, a charity which has been providing practical and emotional support for blind people for almost 100 years.

Fundraiser Helena Sinclair said: "As a charity we rely on the support of the local community and events like this really do make a difference locally, whereby our services provide a lifeline for many.

"We are not funded by the council, government or the RNIB, so fundraising is key in order to continue our work reducing isolation and loneliness to thousands across the county."

A number of local car clubs will be attending and supporting the event including Blackmore Vale MG Owners Club, Poole Bay Classics, Morris Minor Owners club Dorset Branch and Bournemouth and Poole MG Owners Club.

There are currently 20 places left for car owners to exhibit their vintage vehicles or sports cars outside the iconic Lulworth Castle.

Entry is £10 per person which includes run entry and route information, showground car entry, bacon roll and hot drink at registration plus entry to the castle itself.
