DORSET is set to get chortling as Camp Bestival proves that comedy is the new rock and roll.

Today the Dorset family festival has announced three top comics will be joining the festivities at Lulworth Castle.

For the festival’s tenth birthday party they will be welcoming comedians Reginald D Hunter, Gary Delaney and Kerry Godliman.

The trio will be part of the festival’s side-splitting Big Top Sunday evening comedy line-up. More comedy names will be announced as the event, from July 27 to 30, draws nearer.

Reginald D Hunter is a familiar face on TV with appearances on shows including Have I Got News for You, Live at the Apollo and QI. He will be bringing his new tour, Some People Vs Reginald D Hunter, to the UK this year. He will be joined by Mock the Week star Gary Delaney’s near-the-knuckle one-liner humour and the line-up will be completed by the straight-talking and quick-witted Kerry Godliman. She is a Radio 4 regular and has appeared on Live at the Apollo, Jack Dee’s Referendum HelpDesk, Channel 4’s Comedy Gala and played Hannah in Ricky Gervais comedy, Derek.

Comedian Kerry Godliman will be appearing at Camp Bestival for the third time. She said she is looking forward to the event. She said: “Once again there’s a fantastic big top line-up of comedy at Camp Bestival, Reginald D Hunter is easily one of the best comedians around.

“Gary Delaney is a non-stop gag machine and hey, I’m not too shabby myself. And with loads more comics and clowns being announced soon, you won’t be stuck for a laugh at Lulworth Castle this July.”

To ensure there’s plenty of laughs for the kids too, Camp Bestival will have a new show called Kidocracy. This will be an interactive theatre show for children aged six and above, presented by Keith Farnan – parents may recognise him from the popular TV show Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow.

Appearing as his alter ego, Brehon, an ancient Irish know-it-all, the show begins when children are told they are being given an island to rule.

In just under an hour, they must elect leaders, write anthems, come up with rules and deal with all sorts of crises, because running the world isn’t just all fun, there’s stuff to be done as well.
