SWANAGE’S Mowlem Theatre will be celebrating its 50th birthday with a production from the June Ranger School of Dancing.

June Ranger’s first production at the theatre took place just three weeks after it opened in 1967, and she’s been involved with the Mowlem ever since.

To celebrate both 50 years of the theatre and of June Ranger productions, the June Ranger School of Dance will perform a show – which is also part of the Purbeck Art Weeks Festival – called ‘Moving in Time’.

This event will include performances from contemporary dance professionals, Purbeck’s young dancers and a selection of films focusing on moments in dance history.

A Mowlem Theatre spokesman said: “The evening will take you on a journey, using an unusual and exciting combination of live dance and films that show different dance styles and celebrate the sheer joy of dance – from the classical virtuosity of a prima ballerina to street dancing students.

“Purbeck and Dorset dance students will present three dance pieces based on the festival’s ‘A Moment in Time’ theme. They will start with the influence of jazz and Hollywood glamour in the first half of the twentieth century, followed by the freedom and vitality of contemporary dance, leading us into the 21st century with urban/street dance.”

Moving in Time is scheduled for the Mowlem Theatre, Swanage, at 6pm, Sunday, June 4.
