LOWLIFE thieves have stolen personal tributes from a floral memorial left for three Weymouth fishermen.

The family and friends of the fishermen slammed the thieves who took two bottles of lager and a can of lager from the makeshift memorial at Weymouth Harbour.

The drinks were placed there by Kat Moore, 32, as a tribute to missing Robert Prowse, who she said was ‘like a brother’ to her.

Robert is still missing along with his crewmate Jack Craig.

The body of Purbeck Isle skipper David McFarlane was recovered on Friday.

Kat said: “These are items that I left. It was so hurtful to find that they weren’t there.

“I would say to the people that have done this ‘have some respect’, two of these men are still missing.

“Show a bit of respect for the family and people who are still grieving.”

Kat, of Weymouth, said she left the beer for 20-year-old Rob because he didn’t like hot drinks and would always request a beer.

She discovered the items were missing when she paid a visit to the memorial with other family and friends of the fishermen.

David McFarlane’s daughter Bethany Huntley, 16, said the thieves were ‘disrespectful’.

The All Saints school pupil added: “It’s so disrespectful. I can’t believe how disrespectful people can be.

“People need to think of others. This memorial is there for my family and the other families and for people who didn’t know them but who want to think of them.

“It’s so disappointing that this has happened.”

Bethany said CCTV footage from nearby cameras is to be examined.

Kat says she remembers Rob always laughing and joking.

“He was always joking and would do anything for anyone.

“Anytime he was around he would always make me laugh,” she said.

Family and friends of the Purbeck Isle crew have organised a service in their memory.

A Fishermen’s Remembrance Service will be held at Portland Bill on Friday June 1 at 8.30pm for David McFarlance, Jack Craig and Robert Prowse.

Anyone who wishes to attend is welcome.
