AN ELDERLY woman who was killed in a car crash last week has been named by police.

Helen Mary Case, 73, from Lyme Regis, sustained serious injuries in the collision close to the Dorset-Devon border on Tuesday, November 15. Mrs Case was pronounced dead in hospital.

Emergency services were called to Lyme Road following the collision between a Ford Mondeo and a Mitsubishi Space Star, close to the Symonds Lane junction.

The Mondeo was heading uphill from Axminster when it hit the nearside verge before colliding with the Mitsubishi, driven by Mrs Case, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

The Mitsubishi left the road and dropped three metres down a bank before coming to rest against trees. Also within the Mitsubishi were an 82-year-old man and a young child who both sustained minor injuries.

The Mondeo driver, an 80-year-old woman also from Lyme Regis, was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital with minor injuries.

The road was closed for seven hours for officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Team to carry out a forensic examination of the scene.
