POLICE have issued a warning to parents after a teenage girl was found drunk on a seafront bench.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said there were ‘at least’ 250 children wandering around Lyme Regis on Friday evening.

A member of the Bridport, Beaminster and Lyme Regis Neighbourhood Policing team said: “Tonight there have been a large number of youngsters in Lyme Regis, and quite a high number of them have been in drink.

“Myself and my colleague have located a lot of abandoned bottles whose owners have legged it when they saw us coming.

“One person was not so lucky, a 15-year-old girl was sitting on a bench on Marine Parade vomiting and unable to string a sentence together. When we arrived her so called "friends" made a swift exit, going on their way to the party being held in town. A quick call on the girl's phone had her mum come and pick her up, and take her home where she will hopefully be safe.”

In a warning to parents, the team added: “Do you know where your children are, and what they are doing? Just because they say they are going to Fred's house, are they?

“Please take an interest in where your children are and what they are doing so that they remain safe.”
