The clippers were out for three mechanics who braved the shave and cold heads for charity.

Ryan Bennett, Matt Green and Ben Cousins from Bennetts Mechanical Services in Pineapple Business Park, Salwayash, all had their heads shaved to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

Alongside Ryan, Matt and Ben was one of their customers Joanna Kuligowaska-Kasperek, a nursing assistant who also braved the shave.

The event was supported by all the businesses on the business park and fantastic cakes were baked for those who attended to enjoy, raising further funds for Cancer Research UK and the Dorset County Hospital appeal.

The event has so far raised more than £1800 for the charities.

Megan Bessell, Pineapple Business Park spokesman, said: "We would like to thank everyone who helped make this event so successful, including those who donated online, baked cakes and everyone who supported on the day and gave up their time to make it happen."

Money raised by the head shave will fund research to beat cancer sooner, helping to ensure more men, women and children in Dorset and across the UK survive.

Becky Trout, local fundraising manager for Cancer Research UK, said: "Thank you so much to all four of the brave head shavers and to Pineapple Business Park who helped organise the brilliant event to help Cancer Research UK beat cancer sooner.

"It was lovely to see how the community on the business park came together to stand up to cancer."

"Cancer survival rates have doubled since the 1970s and our work has been at the heart of that progress.

"However, we have only been able to achieve this thanks to the dedication and commitment of supporters like those at Bennetts Mechanical Services and Pineapple Business Park. Research is global but it has a local impact.

"Every day, people in the south west and all across the UK benefit from drugs that Cancer Research UK scientists helped to develop. The death rates from cancer in the south west have fallen by more than a fifth over the past 20 years. Our research will help it fall even more."
