It’s been three years since Lulu Covey died in a car crash – and her loving family are determined to keep her memory alive by helping others.

Lulu Rocks, an annual event celebrating Lulu’s life, took place on Saturday and saw an impressive turnout at Salwayash village hall, near Bridport.

Music fans enjoyed the sounds of The Leggomen, The Salt, Jack Humphries, Zoe Baker and The Masquerades and guests were treated to plenty of tasty treats at an array of street food stalls before trying their luck with a raffle.

Lulu’s family are still in the process of counting up the proceeds from this year’s event but are optimistic that, with previous events having raised £7,000 in 2016 and £11,700 in 2017, they will meet their goal of reaching £30,000 by 2019 - when Lulu would have been 30 years old.

Her mum, Glenys Marsh, was pleased with Saturday’s event.

“It went really well,” she said. “We have been holding the event since 2016. We want to raise money for charities and by doing this we feel we are keeping Lu’s memory alive.”

Proceeds from this year’s event will go towards Mountjoy School and The Racehorse Sanctuary.

Mountjoy School caters for pupils aged between two and 19 with a range of complex needs.

The Racehorse Sanctuary provides a lifeline for horses that have left the racing industry, many of which require new homes, rehabilitation and retraining.

Glenys said: “We are raising money for Mountjoy School and The Racehorse Sanctuary – Lulu worked for Martin and Philippa Clunes as their groom and they raise money each year in memory of Lu at Buckham Fair. They chose the Racehorse Sanctuary for 2018.

“By giving to Lulu Rocks 2018 you will help us accomplish our goal and also assist the chosen charities in carrying out their fantastic work.”
