THE future is looking bright for Weymouth Concert Brass.

The band travelled to Torquay to compete in the West of England Area Brass Band Finals and managed to scoop sixth place out of a total of 21.

It comes after they welcomed their newly-appointed musical director Kevin Goodwin.

Member Roger Sutherland said: “The test piece for the fourth section bands was Three Spanish Impressions by Alan Fearnie. We were drawn first to play out of twenty-one bands and our performance resulted in gaining sixth place with very favourable comments from the two adjudicators.

“This was a pleasing result for the band and reflects the hard work put in by the musical director and players in the few weeks following the Christmas break prior to the contest.”

He added: “2014 looks set to be another busy year.”

The finals were held at the Riviera Centre in Torquay.

The band played Weymouth Music Festival before the event which gave them the opportunity to play the test piece to an audience and an adjudicator.

Adjudicator Christopher O’Neal said: “It was a very professional and controlled performance”. The bands engagement diary is already filling up with their first concert being given for the Centenary Celebrations of All Saints Church Easton on Friday, May 9.

Other engagements include Cruise Ship calls at Portland Port, D-Day picnic at Nothe Gardens, Easton Community events and many others.
