FAMILY and friends of a Weymouth dad who collapsed and died at a New Year’s Eve party have helped raise around £2,000 for charity.

A family fun day was held on Saturday in memory of Jonathan Clark, known as Joffy, who died aged 27.

Joffy, who worked at Daniel’s Fish and Chip shop in Littlemoor, left behind his partner Claire Wootton and their son Cohan, aged two.

He collapsed on New Year’s Eve at about 2am midway through a conversation with Claire.

An inquest could find no medical cause for Mr Clark’s death, although fluid in the lungs suggested he could have experienced a sudden rhythm disturbance of the heart.

Claire organised an event at the Redlands sports hub in Dorchester Road, raising money in aid of the CRY charity, which offers support to family and friends suffering from bereavement.

Joffy is missed by his mother Margaret French and father Charlie Clark, two sisters Jenny and Emma and brother Andrew.

Describing the day, Claire said: “It went really, really well.

“It was a bit of a slow start but then by about 2pm when Peppa Pig came it was quite packed.”

Activities on the day included face painting, a bouncy castle, raffle prizes and a mini football tournament. Each team paid £10 to enter the tournament.

A number of Joffy’s friends took part, as well as his former football team, The Market House.

Despite one of the teams dropping out on the day, Claire described the tournament as a success. She now plans to organise a similar event for next year.

She said: “I think I might do a bigger football tournament, with bigger pitches and more teams.”

Meanwhile, Claire expressed her gratitude to friends, family and companies who helped make sure the fun day took place.

She said: “All I can say is thank you because we had so much support and so many people running around.”

After Saturday’s success, Claire suggested the day’s activities and events could be repeated next year but on different dates. She added: “If anyone wants to get in touch for next year we will do it bigger and better.”
