A NEW alerting system has been installed at Weymouth lifeboat station.
Following successful trials around the coast, an alerting siren has been positioned on the inshore lifeboat boathouse.
Since losing the maroons, which were traditionally fired to warn the public of the launch of the lifeboat, the RNLI had been looking for a replacement system.
The siren will routinely be sounded between the hours of 7am and 10pm when the lifeboats are launched on service. It may also be activated outside of these hours at the discretion of the launching authority.
