THE grandparents of a Chickerell youngster with leukaemia are the latest people to become barbecue heroes for charity.

As reported in the Echo, five-year-old Elliot Barton was diagnosed with juvenile myelomonocytic leukaemia, a rare form of the disease only five people are diagnosed with each year in the UK.

Elliot’s family launched national campaign ‘BBQ for Cancer Research’ to raise money for charity.

His grandparents Brian and Janet Barton held their own barbecue fundraiser on July 26, which raised over £1,000 on Elliot’s behalf.

Mr Barton said: “We would like to thank all our family and friends for their generosity and support for this great cause, and give special thanks to Tarnie and Celeste who held a separate barbecue in support.”
