A HUGE search is underway to find a missing 11-year-old boy.

George Pugh-Sargent, from Frampton near Dorchester, was last seen near the car park and café at Ringstead Bay at Osmington, at around 1.30pm today.

He is described as white, five feet three inches tall and has short blonde hair.

He was wearing a Hawaiian print T-shirt, black shorts with braces, sandals and a gem stone bracelet. A search involving the police helicopter, 25 police officers, Portland Coastguard and the Wyke inshore and all-weather lifeboat is underway.

Chief Inspector Marsden, Force Incident Commander, said: “Due to some disabilities George has he may not recognise risks or may react differently than other children of his age.

“This could include approaching premises if he is hungry or thirsty.

“We are concerned, with his family, for his safety and are working with them and other agencies to locate him.

“Any sightings from the public, given his distinctive clothing, would be very helpful.”

Officers at the scene say George was walking along the coast path with his family when he ran off.

There were possible sightings two hours ago and the search has now moved to the area between Osmington and Weymouth.

Speaking at the scene, Insp Colin Bell said: “George knows the area quite well, he has camped here before.

“He is quite fit so we are not sure how far he has walked.”

He added: “We are getting increasingly concerned for him as the weather conditions are deteriorating.”

Rob Sansom, senior coastal operations officer at Portland Coastguard said the inshore and all-weather lifeboats are searching the sea, but there is no indication that George could have entered the water.

He added: “We have a possible sighting about two hours ago on the beach by Ringstead Bay cafe, we are now searching along the beach.

“The child is quite fit and we are not sure how far he could have walked.”
