ON your marks, get set, Bake Off!

A Weymouth community will be all pitching in to create tasty cakes and treats in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.

After the success of last year’s Broadwey Bake Off, the competition is back and this year organisers are hoping it will be even bigger and better than last time.

Janet and Peter Blakey of Broadwey Village Stores are organising the second Great Broadwey Bake Off in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society on Saturday, November 15.

They are urging everyone, both young and young at heart, to get involved and bake up a storm for a good cause.

They want the whole community to take part.

One of last year’s winners, Samantha Spraklen, will be back as a judge this year.

Mrs Blakey said they wanted to make it a real community event and top the 63 cakes they had entered last year.

She said: “We just decided that a lot of people are affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia. Peter’s parents both had dementia.

“We are hoping it will be as popular this year as it was last year.”

She added: “The cakes need to impress but the main thing is, it’s for the community and about taking part and being public spirited.

“Communities these days don’t get together very much.”

Mrs Blakey added: “It’s a community thing. I want to get as many people as I can involved and give the charity £1.”

She added that if everyone gave a pound to the cause, it would all add up.

There are three categories people can enter: the Christmas cake section, the favourite Christmas sweet treat category and the children’s under 16 contest.

Entry will be £2 per cake and entries can be dropped off at Whipround, the shop next to Broadwey village stores, from 11am to 12noon.

The judging will take place at 1.30pm and the entries will be open to public viewing from 2.30pm. The prize-giving will be at 3pm. For more details call 01305 812417.
