A CELEBRITY cage fighter has shown his full support to a teen in need of a new wheelchair during a fundraiser.

Alex Reid, a mixed martial artist who won Celebrity Big Brother in 2010 and was married to model Katie Price, turned up to show his support for 14-year-old Mitchel Harvey.

The teen from Weymouth, who has cerebral palsy and goes to Victoria Education Centre in Branksome twice a week, needs a new £18,000 4x4 power wheelchair, which allows him to sit, stand and move over different ground surfaces.

Mum Tina says that once the family, including Mitch’s dad, Martin, and his sister, Tilly, nine, have fundraised for it, the new chair will allow her son to be more adventurous.

“Mitch is so lovely, sociable and appreciative of everything, but is held back by the limitations of his current power chair,” she said.

“He had a test drive in this new one on Thursday, which he really loved and could use on the beach, on walks in the woods and for everything really.”

The event took place at The Talbot pub on Wimborne Road, Winton.

Tina added: “The landlord and lady of the pub, Dee and Phill Pritchard, are friends of ours and wanted to help with fundraising for Mitchel.

“It’s really nice for Alex Reid to come along and support this event, as it brings people along and it all helps with the fundraising.”

Pub landlord Phill said that they were only too pleased to help.

He added: “Mitch lives in Weymouth yet he has never been able to go on the beach, so we said we would hold an event for him to help him to do that.

“Our friend, Giles Richards from Yeovil Martial Arts Academy, knows Alex Reid from his Fight Night events and passed on his details.

“We called Alex up, asked him if he would come to the event and we were really pleased to see him here.

“We are also so grateful to everyone who donated their time or prizes for the raffle to help with the fundraiser.”
