SIX people were arrested in a police ‘day of action’ to tackle drugs crime in Weymouth.

Four arrests were made at three properties in the town.

Officers executed warrants under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 yesterday morning and raided properties in Hereford Road, Dorset Close and Norfolk Road in the Westham area.

A 47-year-old man was arrested at a property in Dorset Close on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance, and has since been bailed.

Three people were arrested at an address in Hereford Road – one on suspicion of intent to supply Class A drugs, and the other two in connection with the supply of Class A drugs.

Full searches, including searches using police dogs, were conducted at all three properties.

A large quantity of cash and numerous bundles of an unknown substance were seized in the raids.

Later in the day officers conducted stop and search patrols with a police dog at Weymouth railway station and in the Park District area of the town.

A number of individuals were searched and two men were arrested in Crescent Street on suspicion of possession of a Class A drug.

Yesterday’s ‘day of action’ is part of Operation Champion, which is Dorset Police’s continuing crackdown on the supply and dealing of drugs in Weymouth.

Sgt Adam Pilton said yesterday: “We are conducting some drugs searches in Weymouth today as part of our ongoing day of action.

“Really the key message we want to get out today is that we are here to help our communities, to prevent drug dealing and using in the communities.

“We want support from communities, so if they hear or see anything we want them to let us know or call Crimestoppers.”

Anyone with information about the misuse of drugs should call Dorset Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
