A PUB lit up in memory of a Christmas lover and made more than £2,000 for charity.

Lights for Lyn was held at the Spice Ship in aid of Weldmar.

It was a celebration for Lyn Weaver, a 48-year-old mum of one, who lost her battle with cancer earlier this year.

Thanks to fantastic support from the local community, thousands of pounds was raised in her name and the pub is hoping to make Lights for Lyn a yearly event.

It already has its first Christmas tree sponsor for 2015 the local band Stereoironics. It is another boost for the charity after raffle prizes stolen from Gould’s Garden Centre in Weymouth were returned by police.

Landlady Wendy Buckingham said: “We’re hoping to make it bigger and better every year.

“Lyn loved Christmas. It was her favourite time of year. And she used to get the Christmas stuff ready at Goulds Garden Centre, where she worked.

“Goulds was the sponsor of the big tree in the garden.

“We want to thank everyone who helped us make the event- the sponsors, people who came along.

“Anybody that played a part in it – however small.”

A tree sponsored by Gladstone’s the Jewellers and decorated by The Front skate park scooped the prize for best-dressed.

Wendy is urging local people to pop along and take a look at the trees all lit up.

“Someone said they were on the bus and a person was saying ‘have you seen the trees at the Spice Ship? They look beautiful.’ “If you’re in the area, pop down with the kids and take a look as they really do look lovely.

“We’re going to make next year even bigger and better and keep Lyn’s memory going.”
