A FASCINATING insight to the life of aviator Amelia Earhart is coming to Weymouth College for one night only.

Lost in Transmission is to be performed by Freshly Squeezed Theatre at the Bay Theatre within the college on Thursday, January 15, from 7.30pm.

Earhart changed aviation history by becoming the first person to fly solo across the Pacific Ocean.

Publically she was perceived as an inspiration for women of the time but privately Earhart’s story reveals a more complex life that challenges her media image and asks us to consider why people in the public eye need to hide who they are.

The mystery of Amelia’s tragic disappearance remains unsolved, with many agencies claiming answers to what happened in her final hours.

Freshly Squeezed Theatre is a new theatre company, which was put together last year by foundation degree actor training students from the college.

The company strives to bring contemporary themes to life on stage.

The script for Lost in Transmission was written in-house by members of the company, inspired by Amelia Earhart’s life and achievements.

Company member Louis Thrift said: “This production is the result of months of creative collaboration and vigorous research.

“We wanted to ensure we accurately captured the look, sound and spirit of 1930s America.

“The story tackles topics of marriage, public image and social status.

“Most of the characters we portray were real people. Every performer has studied the character’s history and personality in order to ensure they are as authentic as possible.”

Lost in Transmission takes a new look at the evidence available from Earhart’s appearance.

Why was it that no one listened to the 15-year-old girl who may have had the answer?

Seventy-seven years on, elderly Betty Klenck still has a story to tell and the current search is closer than ever to finding Earhart’s resting place. Will the mystery finally be solved?

Can the real personality behind the public image finally be revealed?

The show has been funded by generous donations and company-run fundraising events.
