A MURAL celebrating Portland will be unveiled next month.

Currently artist Podi Lawrence is three-quarters of the way through the giant mural, which will adorn a wall at the Heights Hotel in Portland when it’s completed.

The mural will be 12ft wide by 6ft tall when it’s finished and will celebrate everything about the Isle.

Mrs Lawrence said: “I have set myself a challenge of also including many of the activities that take place here and some historical notes.

“For example, the port will have a cruise liner in dock, HMS Portland will be just steaming in, there will be some cartoons of fishermen, both on the sea shore and from boats, divers, and the sailing school and the marina will feature strongly.”

She continued: “It is certainly a challenge and one that I am enjoying immensely. I have painted quite a few wall murals over the years but this is possibly the largest and most intricate piece if have done.”

Operations Director Angie Mustill said: “Portland is an artist’s paradise with quiet coves, picturesque reserves and some of the best views in Britain. We are celebrating this, by having a specially painted mural, for visitors to the Island and the people of Portland to enjoy and admire.

“Podi’s mural is a wonderful depiction of the Island and its many qualities, her work is spectacular, the mural is breath-taking”

The unveiling of the mural will be by invitation only on April 28 at the hotel.
