A BROTHER and sister duo will be a part of Weymouth's history after the got creative to name a new development.

Cameron Brodie, 12, who attends Budmouth College, and Sister Amelia, eight, of St Augustine’s Catholic Primary School, submitted the winning entry of ‘Harbour Lights Court’ after their mother noticed an advert for a competition to name McCarthy and Stone's latest venture.

This week, the siblings were presented with a cheque of £300 for their hard work, which they plan to split between them.

When naming the development, the siblings looked to its surroundings for inspiration.

As Cameron said: “We knew that the development would overlook the harbour, so our first idea was ‘Harbour View’.”

However, after careful consideration, Cameron and Amelia decided that the name wasn’t special enough, so decided to get back to work.

Cameron added: “We thought about what the homeowners would see looking out from their new apartments, and this made us think of all of the lights from the incoming boats, and how pretty these are twinkling in the water.

“We eventually decided on ‘Harbour Lights Court’ as our winning entry, and are really pleased that our name is going to be a piece of Weymouth’s history forever.”

Amelia added: “We were over the moon when we found out we’d won. We tried really hard and couldn’t wait to find out what the winning entry would be! We’ve told all of our friends and they’re all really impressed. Cameron is going to buy a new Xbox game, and I’m going to put my prize money towards a new high sleeper bed.”

Facilities at Harbour Lights Court include a homeowners’ lounge ideal for socialising with friends, beautifully landscaped gardens in which to relax and a convenient guest suite should homeowners have friends or relatives to stay. The development also benefits from its very own House Manager, who will ensure the smooth running of the development, a security entrance system, plus 24-hour emergency call points for added peace of mind for both homeowners and their families.

Jacqui Meenan, regional sales and marketing director for McCarthy and Stone South West, explains: “We pride ourselves on building communities, not just homes, so we really enjoyed this opportunity to hear what the children of Weymouth thought would be a good name for our new development.

We wanted a name that would have meaning to the local area, and what better than to have one submitted by two of Weymouth’s own.

“The standard of entries was particularly high for this competition, but we felt that Cameron and Amelia’s entry really captured the best of the development’s surroundings and we’re delighted to name them as winners.”
