BIKE night is powering back into Weymouth – bigger and better than before.

The 2015 event also has a new venue and bikers will be seen lining by Weymouth’s Jubilee Clock every Thursday until the end of September.

The event regularly attracts hundreds of bikers from across Dorset and beyond and this year they will again be joined by the classic American cars on the last Thursday of each month.

Last Thursday saw the first show of 2015, with 120 bikes turning up to show their support.

Businesses along the Esplanade will be supporting the event with special offers on coffees and teas.

But it’s not just a chance for bikers to meet up and see the different vehicles on display - the event has raised thousands for charity over the past five years.

This year all proceeds from the £1.50 entry fee will go to Dorset’s children’s hospice Julia’s House and NABD – a charity which helps to adapt bikes so that injured bikers can ride again.

Organiser Brian Coombes said they were delighted with their new home for 2015. He said there was the potential for around 300 bikes at the new site.

He said: “Hopefully it will encourage more people to come along. We have got all the support of the eating places along the seafront – they are staying open and giving discounts on coffees and teas.”

He added: “We have changed the charities. We had been collecting for the lifeboat and air ambulance for the last five years and so this year we are doing Julia’s House and NABD.”

He said the event was getting bigger and better and they had received great support. He encouraged bikers from across the county to come along and enjoy the sea views.

He added: “Just come down. It’s going to be a great event and a great venue. It’s got the sea views – on a summer night it’s magic.”

Traffic won’t be an issue either as the Jubilee Clock venue is off road and there will be a one-way system for bikes coming in and out.

Mr Coombes said: “It’s brilliant. It will be bigger and better.”

He thanked all the marshals and stewards who helped out at the event, organiser Charlie Stafford, and borough councillor Christine James for her support.
