VOLUNTEERS in Weymouth and Portland have been recognised for their dedication and hard work in the community with Good Citizen awards.
Six residents from across the borough accepted certificates from the Mayor of Weymouth & Portland at an event in the Mayor’s Parlour at the North Quay offices.
The hunt for unsung heroes in the community began last year.
Residents were given the chance to nominate people who they thought deserved recognition for dedicating their time and effort to make an outstanding contribution to the community, outside of paid employment.
Recipients of the 2015 award are:
• Colin Parkes for the active role he takes in the Wey Valley PACT and also the many years he has collected litter along Manor Road and Radipole Lane • Michael Govier for doing maintenance and gardening work for neighbours for free
• David and Geraldine Burchill for the many years they have volunteered at the Waterside Community Forum
• Geraldine Arnold for the many years she has been running the lunch club at the Fiveways Centre
• Amy Tufnail for raising over £1,000 for Motor Neurone Disease Association in just four years in memory of her late uncle If residents would like to nominate someone in the community who really makes a difference for a Good Citizen Award please visit dorsetforyou.com/goodcitizensaward
