ANYONE that has found a yellow knitted duck around Weymouth is being urged to record it online.

As part of the Little Yellow Duck Project’s Yellow Duck Day 2015, Suzy Compton hid 14 of her knitted ducks around the town last week.

The project, which raises awareness of blood and organ donation, wants people to visit their website and register the ducks.

So far, only five of the ducks that Suzy placed around Weymouth have been recorded online.

Suzy and her daughter Alice, accompanied by Lilly the dog, took to the streets on Wednesday, April 15 to hide the ducks.

Suzy said: “It went really well. It was just good fun, we just walked around the whole of the town and hid 14 ducks. It was a beautiful day and we went up to the Nothe and Greenhill. We went all around.”

The trio tried their best to make sure nobody saw them leave the ducks so not to ruin the surprise for anybody that finds a duck.

Suzy admitted it’s sometimes difficult leaving something you spent time on and potentially never finding out its fate.

She said: “It’s slightly strange leaving something you have spent time making and not knowing what will happen to them.”

The campaign has seen ducks recorded online all over the world in places like Pakistan, Australia, Botswana, Argentina and of course in Weymouth since it was launched last year.

The idea of the campaign is to raise awareness of the need for organ and blood donors.

Suzy said: “The whole point is to spread the message about the need for blood donors and organ donors. It makes you feel great, you can really help people and save lives.”

For the project’s day, Suzy named all of her ducks after Thomas Hardy characters and it took her total ducks knitted for the year up to eighty.

Suzy is now asking people, if they have found or do find a duck to register it online.

She said: “Well it would be nice. About a third usually only get logged. Some of them will have been found by holiday makers and they might not be able to get on a computer until they get home.”

Ducks found around the town and recorded since the event include Giles Winterborne at Nothe Fort, Diggory Venn at Brewers Quay and Angel Clare at Jubilee Clock.

If you have already found a duck and have not logged it, go to www.thelittleyellowduckproject.org/world-map/ to do so and also leave a message supporting the campaign.
