A DREAM more than ten years in the making is set to come true as a fundraiser heads to Machu Picchu.

Sarah Standland, 46, has been putting on a series of charity events to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

This will culminate with a charity challenge trek to Machu Picchu in October.

She has already held two coffee and cake mornings, two quiz nights and a jumble sale.

Her next event will be a ‘Black and White Summer Ball’ at Weymouth Golf Club on Saturday, June 13.

Sarah, a Florist at the Pygmalion Florist on Westham Road, is hoping to challenge herself whilst raising money for a good cause close to her heart.

She has seen both her father and her grandfather suffer from heart disease and wanted to raise money to support the charity.

Sarah said: “I wanted to set myself a challenge. I wanted to raise money for charity but I’m also trying to train myself to be healthier as well.”

The idea first came to Sarah as long as 14 years ago but it never happened and now it will be even more of a challenge than it was then.

She said: “I was trying to do it 13 or 14 years ago and now I’m a little bit older and a little less fit it will be a big exercise for me.

“It’s just something that I’ve always wanted to do. I’m just looking forward to seeing the beauty of it.”

Sarah is also currently preparing to step-up her training to make sure she is ready for the trek.

Coronary heart disease is the single biggest killer in the UK and the British Heart Foundation is leading the fight against it.

Sarah’s fundraising will go towards helping power their life-saving research and help keep more families together.
